Why a laser rangefinder?   These types of small rangefinders come in two types: Ultrasonic meters and laser measurement. An ultrasonic rangefinder, measures a distance by measuring the elapsed time between sending and receiving reflected sound waves. This assumes a constant speed of the sound. A laser measurement works in principle the same, all now the reflection of light is used instead of sound. The ultrasonic meters assume that the speed of sound is constant on Earth, but in practice it depends on atmospheric quantities such as temperature and pressure. This alone means that we always have to assess a measurement of an ultrasonic meter with some reserve. There is a certain measurement error “ingrained” in the measurement method because the measurement yields different values under different atmospheric conditions. An ultrasonic measurement can therefore not achieve a higher accuracy than a few centimeters. In addition, the range of a sound wave is not as great as that of a laser beam, due to damping. Finally, the reflection of a sound wave can only be clearly observed if this wave encounters almost perpendicular to a hard surface. Measuring at an angle is therefore not possible with ultrasonic measuring. Laser measurement therefore offers major advantages over ultrasonic measurement: • Laser measurement is very accurate. An accuracy of 1-2 millimeters is achievable at a distance of 100 meters. • Laser measurement is not affected by atmospheric conditions. • Laser measurements can be performed over a wide range, because laser light suffers less from atmospheric damping than sound waves. • Laser measurement can take place at an angle, as long as only part of the laser beam bounces back to the measuring device. Angle measurements therefore go well on diffuse (coarse) surfaces. (An angle measurement with a mirror surface is therefore not possible)   Until recently, laser distance meters were very expensive due to the ultra short measuring times, which place high demands on the speed of the processor and electronics. (The speed of light is 300,000,000 meters per second, while the speed of sound is approximately 331 m / s, so there is almost a factor of 1 million in between!). Thanks to advances in technology and, in particular, miniaturization of electronics, such techniques are now much cheaper to produce… and you can now reap the benefits.   A 50 meter and a 100 meter version: This 50 meter version differs from the 100 meter version on the following 3 points: • The 50 meter version has a black display with white text, while the 100 meter version has black text on the familiar LCD silver background. • The backlight (LED lighting of the display) is white in the 50 meter version, while the 100 meter version has blue lighting. • The 100 meters shows the measured angle, so it can also be used as a level. The 50 meter version is included in the angle in order to be able to perform hypotenuse calculations (eg height measurement from the ground), but does not show the measured angle, so that the 50 meter version cannot be used as a digital level.   The combination with more sensors   Furthermore, both devices are designed in such a way that they get the most out of the advantages of laser distance measurement, which is additionally supplemented with sensors such as an electronic balance organ (a so-called IMU - inertial measurement unit, originating from the smartphone (and drone) industry). . Thanks to this unit, angles can be measured.   If one combines laser measurement with angle measurement, this means that (with a little math) the following (new) quantities can be performed based on these angle and distance measurements: • Distance measurement (basic functionality) • Relative distance measurement (add / subtract measures) • Overhang (hypotenuse / hypotenuse) length measurement • Angle measurement (level function - only with the 100 more version) • Height measurement - For example, by beaming the highest point of a wall with the laser, while the laser is held close to the ground at some distance from the wall, the height of the wall can be read! • Surface measurement (by measuring multiple points) • Content measurement (by measuring multiple points)   Other specifications of this laser distance meter   • Range 50 or 100 meters (depending on the model) • IP65 (splash and dust proof), The device can not withstand immersion under water and water under (high) pressure, but can withstand falling into a puddle. • Addition and subtraction function (relative measurement) • Continuous measurement (real-time!) • Robust housing (drop-resistant up to a height of 2 meters) • 2 "white text on black background (50 meter version) or black text on gray background (100 meter version) • Selectable measurement reference point: front and rear • Material: ABS with a rubber (TPU) outside edge • Charging time: 4 - 4.5 hours. • Automatic Power-off function.   Delivery contents • 1x laser rangefinder • 1x storage bag • 1x wrist strap • 3x NiMH AAA battery (900 mAh x 3) • 1x user manual.
